Find out why the Polish Investment and Trade Agency (PAIH) is coming to CPhI & P-MEC China this year and read why China is such an important market for Polish businesses to tap into.
Tell us a little about your organization, what is your main focus?
The Polish Investment and Trade Agency (PAIH) works to increase the inflow of investments to Poland and the outflow of Polish FDI. It also aims to increase the number of Polish exports. While supporting entrepreneurs, the Agency assists in overcoming administrative and legal procedures related to specific projects as well as helping to develop legal solutions, find a suitable location, reliable partners and suppliers. To offer direct assistance for businesses, in 2017, PAIH has established a system of international support all over the world. The PAIH Foreign Trade Offices comprise of a global, constantly expanding network of the Agency's divisions responsible for providing support to Polish exporters and investors who look for new opportunities overseas. The PAIH Foreign Trade Offices are focused on distant markets of rapid growth that represent the greatest potential for Polish companies. The offices have also been designed to attract foreign investors and to assist them in their way to set up a business in Poland. Two Foreign Trade Offices have been also established in mainland China - in Shanghai and Chengdu.
Why is China an important market for you?
The Chinese market has been an attractive destination for the Polish agri-food sector, as well as for the jewellery, cosmetics and luxury products sector. With a long tradition of political cooperation and a positive climate of bilateral economic exchange, both countries seek to create growing opportunities for its entrepreneurs.
In 2018 Poland organized one of the largest business delegations participating in China’s top trade event – China International Import Expo (CIIE). Representatives of various sectors including agriculture, cosmetics, jewellery and high-tech presented Poland’s offer at the largest national stand of all EU participants.
Several companies have entered the Chinese market in the wake of their presentations at the fair in November 2018. The potential for Polish companies is growing, which is why the Polish Investment and Trade Agency decided to open its second office in China (Chengdu) allowing Polish entrepreneurs to have a touchpoint in China as well.
How is the relationship between your country and China?
This year Poland and China celebrate the 70th anniversary of the establishment of their diplomatic relations. Over the past seven decades both countries have established, and are ready to maintain, a strong and stable bilateral co-operation. Currently our relations are developing much more vigorously, in view of the New Silk Road initiative and the 16+1 co-operation format. In 2015, Polish President Andrzej Duda visited China, in 2016 President Xi Jinping visited Poland. As a result of this exchange of visits, diplomatic relations between the two countries have evolved into a comprehensive strategic partnership.
China is Poland’s biggest trade partner in Asia at the moment while Poland remains China’s biggest trade partner in Central and Eastern Europe.
How do you see it evolving in the future?
The development of economic relations between Poland and China is an opportunity for both sides, which both countries should make the most of. Poland’s involvement in the New Silk Road initiative and its activities with the Asian Infrastructure Investment Bank, of which it is a founding member, are conducive for joint ventures and the joint development of technologies.
For the future, we desire an even better cooperation between Poland and China in many areas.
