Kevin Spelman, PhD, MCPP is a researcher, clinician, educator and industry consultant that has advised the White House and the US Department of Defense on natural products. Dr. Spelman practiced clinical phytotherapyfor 20 years in various international medical centers. In research settings he has focused on molecular techniques to elucidate the pharmacology of phytochemicals on human physiology and currently has 27 peer reviewed publications on medicinal plants. He also carried out malaria and natural products research as a Marie Curie Research Fellow in Paris. As a Postdoctoral Fellow at National Institutes of Health, Dr. Spelman studied brain and ovarian cancer, as well as cannabinoid receptor binding and was the first researcher to elucidate cannabinoid ligands in Zanthoxylum spp. Dr. Spelman was the Clinical Chair for Maryland University of Integrated Health Clinical Herbal Medicine program and has served as a professor at various universities. He is a member of the prestigious College of Practitioners of Phytotherapy in the UK and has been a senior R&D executive for multiple companies over 2 decades. Dr. Spelman has considerable experience in medicinal plant, nutraceutical and cannabinoid research, as well as newproduct development, QC guidelines, research activity and educational curriculums.
